EMILY’S PHILOSOPHY

I take great pride in the successes of my students and value each individual’s strengths and unique gifts. I find few things more gratifying than to see my students begin to foster a passion for music, to watch them experience break through after break through, and to know that they are becoming more confident with their skills and ability to continue progressing. I strive to not only improve the music-specific skills of my students, but to train them to self-assess, self-diagnose, and self-motivate. I love to see confidence and artistry blooming and seeping out into the everyday lives of my students. My ultimate goal is to develop musicians young and old who are independent and have a thorough understanding of what it takes to achieve success in their respective paths.

HOW TO JOIN

    • Step 1: Schedule a FREE consultation by calling or texting me (Emily) at (801) 649.9550, or emailing at emily.merrell17 [at] gmail [dot] com. Consultations typically take place at 8:00pm (after the regular teaching day). The meeting will last approximately 20 minutes. You will not need to sing anything, but rather simply talk about your goals and background, ask any questions you have, and discuss studio policies. I want to make sure you’re 100% comfortable with me, with the studio space, and with studio protocol before you move forward.
    • Step 2: Sign your contract. After your consultation, I’ll send you a private link to your contract, which you can complete at home, at your own pace.
    • Step 3: Make a Payment for first month’s tuition ($150 or $300, depending on lesson frequency). Venmo @emily-merrell17.

LESSON CONTENT

Your lesson content will be designed to suit your specific needs and goals, but should include most of the following (for all ages and skill levels): vocal technique and styling (Pop, R&B, Jazz, Broadway, Rock, Singer-Songwriter, and more), stage presence, developing thoughtful lyric delivery, piano for the self-accompanied vocalist, songwriting and composition, arranging, sight-singing, music theory, improvisation/ad lib, ear training, systematic repertoire development, concepts in character development for the musical actor, and marketing/branding for career-building. You should always feel free to discuss your lesson focus preferences, so I can make adjustments to accommodate your individual goals, strengths, and limitations.

TESTIMONIALS

“I’ve taken voice lessons from a few different instructors and Emily was hands down the best. She helped me learn how to use my entire body to sing powerfully and safely in any genre. She also helped me to see the differences in each genre we attempted. I always felt that she truly wanted to see me succeed, she didn’t act as though I was just another student. Finally, she was very kind, accepting, and understanding, which is exactly what I was looking for in a teacher. I would highly recommend her.” – Danny L.

“Emily is a wonderful vocal coach! She loves seeing her students succeed & achieve goals. She cares about each of her students & loves getting to know them & help them with their personal vocal needs. Emily always goes the extra mile to make her students feel comfortable & accomplished. I love working with Emily!” – Tess Y.

“I’ve been a recording and performing singer/songwriter for years and have always felt limited by my voice, having never had private vocal training. I was searching for an instructor who is highly educated, experienced, but fun and tuned in to what’s relevant. I definitely found that in Emily. She uses her training from one of the best jazz programs in the country to help her students no only sing better, but understand how the voice works and how to use their individual strengths and weaknesses. Emily has helped me unlock a part of my voice that I didn’t know I had. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone who will genuinely care about your goals as a singer.” – Ryan M.
