By now you know that I’ve been careful to weave symbols and lore into all of the visuals, and I want you to understand the weight of the decisions in the Make It Wide visuals…
When I first talked with photographer Jen Palmer about representing our Hallowed Wide mantra (First Descend, Then Divide, Make It Hallowed, Make it Wide) visually, I asked her if she could help me create warm, sunset-y prisms in the photo edits and lighting.
I really wanted the Make It Wide visuals to feel like the brightest afternoon glow, but somehow a little transported – refracted and blown out in all directions to represent the work we do in taking our Make It Hallowed lessons and casting them out over as much our lives as we can.
Then, when I was working with designer Rebecca Fenton to prep for our music videos, I wanted to bring back in more of the beauty and enchantment of The Hallowed Wide with a more Avant Garde + fantastical fairy queen cage piece (I literally could not be more thrilled about this handcrafted treasure). The hair and make-up (by Shawna Turner, of course) still allude to the desert/Martian vibes that take us into that wilder place, too. And the juxtaposition of those two moods is everything Make It Wide should be. Are we amid the lushest of landscapes, or a bright and barren unknown? … perhaps both? perhaps it’s a matter of perspective.
